The first meeting of the Flaire Scientific Support Group was held in early September in Hotel Lasaretti, Oulu. For two days, just under thirty participants enjoyed the exceptional summer weather and the excellent setting of Lasaret.

The support team is made up of six international members in major research roles in the UK, Austria and Sweden. The specialised expertise of the Support Group covers a wide range of skills required for the different work packages, from social equity in energy use and energy transition to systems modelling and economic aspects.

At the meeting, the consortium work packages presented their own and joint plans for the coming years and received feedback on the plans from the support group. In addition, workshops were organised to allow members of the Support Group and the Consortium to freely discuss the plans and the challenges of the research topics. These more informal and open working group discussions were found to be particularly useful.

In its feedback, the Support Group saw great potential in the project, and encouraged stronger cooperation and knowledge sharing between the work packages and institutions to achieve good results. In addition, the Support Group asked the consortium to develop a common goal or mission statement that each project member could feel ownership of and motivation for.

The consortium and the support team are scheduled to meet again in autumn 2026, ahead of the interim report to the Research Council.
